The Costa Tropical borders on to the Costa del Sol but this is not a place of crowded beach and package holidays. Here the mountains form down to the sea often with spectacular cliffs, where you will find small bays and coves, excellent for snorkelling and diving, all along the coast. Flights take you to Granada and Malaga airports which are approximately 1.5 hours drive from the coastal holiday resorts, (though much closer if you are looking for short holidays or city breaks to Granada or Malaga). The main holiday resorts are: Almunecar where the Castle of San Miguel and the old town with its cobbled streets and squares add character. Salobrena with its whitewashed houses built into the castle topped rocky outcrop and Motril, a fishing and leisure port with marina, shopping centres, bars, night clubs and restaurants. The mountains and national parks on the Costa Tropical will appeal to anyone who likes to hire a car to escape the beach and explore wild and rugged scenery while on their holiday breaks.
